The flora of Istrian vineyardThe vineyards in the Slovenian, flysch part of Istria, have a characteristically form of terraces. The article is about the weeds that can be found in these vineyards. A great number of the weeds belong to the Mediteran species, some of them, however are spread generally. Edible are the species of the family Shonchus and Allium, further the species Cichorium intyvus, Tataxacum officinale, Portulaca oleracea, etc. There are a lot of decorative species such as Muscarum racemosum and Ornitigalum umbrelllatum. Of all the weeds grasses are the greast trouble, especially the species Cynodon dactylon and Agroporum repens. As soon as after the end of the Great War giving up, the final stage of the development, however, is the wood. Today in such a wood, in which remnant of former terraces can still be traced, most frequent threes and bushes are: Quercus pubescens, Fraxinus ornus, Ostrya carpinifolia, Cotinus coggygria, Coronilla emeroides and Lignustrum vulgare. The terraced landscape of Slovenian Istria is s traditional cultural landscape, in which biological diversity (biodiversity) is very rich, it is composed of the mosaic picture of fields, vineyards, meadows and pastures, shrubs and woods.
