About importing wine to Carniola and falsifying it in the first half of the 19th century

After the end of the Napoleonian War Austria regained authority over our authority. On this occasion some changes of the inner borders between individual provinces occurred. These changes also influenced the conditions in economy, including wine trade, In the first half of the 19th century wine was imported to Carniola from all the neighbouring provinces as well as form some Italian duchies and Cyprus. Of all the provinces it was Istria that that was affected the heaviest by the changes of borders. All other provinces managed to overcome it in different ways. The state and province authorities tried to establish a permanent income trough duties and additional taxes (it is characteristic that province taxes where always higher than the state duties)m the exports of wine on the other hand tried to sell their produce as well as possible. The reiterating regulations of duties and additional taxes also gave a hint that smuggling was quit a profitable business. Besides, the state authorities had to produce win falsifiers.
