The national geographic characteristics of the Slovenian Istria relevant to viniculture

Due to its vegetated landscape composition the Slovenian Istria offers various natural conditions for successful grow of the vine. The most favourable re the conditions in the coastal zone and in the central part of the flysch hills, up to the height of about 400 meters above the sea level. The majority of vineyards of the Slovenian Istria are concentrated here. Due to less favourable pedagogical and climatic circumstances (the phenomenon of temperature inversion) conditions for growth of the wine are worse in the accumulation flats at the efflux of the valleys into the Golf of Trieste, in the bottoms of the fluvial krast valleys, and at the transition from the flysch to the krast part of the Slovenian Istra. There are boundary climatic circumstances for quality produce at the Podgorje Krast and in the Pregara Plan.
