The city of Piran

Piran is the birth place of the famous violinist and composer, Guiseppe Tartini, the bronze gentleman with violin on the pedestal in the middle of the main square. The tomb of the Tartini family is in the church of St. Fancis. There are several churches in Piran, The most prominent being the Renaissance-Baroque parish church of St. George, with a high looking tower and Baptisty on a hill, from where there is a fine view to sea over the roof of the of the town's houses.

Piran is cluttered on a narrow peninsular between Strunjan and Piran Bay and so the houses are composed, the streets are narrow and there are historical gems at every step; 17th century town gate of St. George; the 15th century building known as the Venetian, one of the most charming examples of Gothic architecture in Slovenia; "hanging houses" in the web of narrow, winding small streets which from the characteristic architectural motif of Piran; the vaulted passages and arcaded courtyards of 17th century Franciscan monastery: 15th century stone flagstaffs; Dolfin's, Milje's, the Cathedral and Central gates in the wall, which is still visible in part, etc. All these pearls are bound into the unity of Piran, a first class monument.
